EV’s Take: Time for Filet-O-Fish to debut on your plant-based menu.
I’m a big fan of Jack & Annie’s. Their Buffalo Jack Wings and Crispy Jack Nuggets were both delicious, so I knew I’d probably like their plant-based fish fillets, and I did! They’re crispy with a golden, crunchy coating and a really nice, mild yet savory flavor. Perfect with ketchup, and I will be trying them with a homemade vegan tartar sauce, soon!

My only real “issue,” and it’s hardly that, is that the texture is slightly more dense than the other vegan fish product I had, but it wasn’t greasy, and the taste and flaky texture of the coating more than make up for it. I also wish they’d just give you six in the box. Five just really irritates me for some reason.

Jack & Annie’s Plant-Based Fish Fillets Ingredients:
Jack & Annie’s relies on jackfruit, a popular plant-based meat substitute, as the primary ingredient, with other spices and binders. If you have allergies, one thing to note is that they do contain wheat and soy.
Here’s what’s in each plant-based fish fillet:
Jackfruit, Water, Enriched Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic ACID), Soy Flour, Canola Oil, Corn Starch, Rice Starch, 2% or Less of Salt, Methylcellulose (Plant Fiber), Leavening (Sodium ACID Pyrophosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Lactate), Corn Flour, Dextrose, Garlic Powder, Natural Flavor, Lactic Acid, Sugar, Algal Oil, Spices (Contains Mustard), Paprika Extract, Sunflower Oil, Rosemary Extract.

From a nutritional standpoint (and this is personal), I think these would be fine as an occasional snack or a quick midweek meal in a pinch. I liked these better than Gardein’s plant-based fish, but I like the look of Gardein’s nutrition a bit better. At nearly the same weight, Gardein offers more protein and lower sodium. I don’t believe that everything you eat needs to be some macro superhero, but if I were going to have these for dinner, I’d pair them with something a little more nutritionally dense (chickpea salad or something like that).

How to Cook Jack & Annie’s Plant-Based Fish Fillets:
The package suggests the air fryer, so that’s what we did! We cooked the entire package at 400ºF for 13 minutes, and they were perfect.
How did EV eat Jack & Annie’s Plant-Based Fish Fillets?
For our taste test, we ate them straight from the package with ketchup to dip them. I might try making them with homemade vegan tartar sauce next and have them on a sandwich with a slice of plant-based cheese.
Where can I buy Jack & Annie’s?
Many Jack & Annie’s products are available on Amazon and other online retailers. I purchased them from Sprouts, but you can use their online store locator to find a brick-and-mortar location near you.
