Another day, another vegan mac and cheese. Will Goodles deliver the goods?

Taste

Goodles promises a tangy, nutty white cheddar mac and cheese, and we agree wholeheartedly! This vegan mac and cheese gives you that white cheddar “funk” without being overly funky or bitter. It’s a savory vegan mac that we’ll want to eat all the time.

Price

A 5.25-ounce package is about $5, which is a little pricey compared to other brands. Daiya’s 5.5-ounce mac and cheese is less than $3, while Banza’s 10-ounce package is about $5. This is a very tasty product, but it’s definitely name-brand priced.

Texture

Goodles is miles ahead of Banza’s crumbly, fall-apart noodles despite both being marketed as high-protein pasta and both being made with chickpea protein. The pasta cooks up beautifully, doesn’t fall apart, and still delivers a good amount of protein per serving.

EV’s Take: A vegan mac and cheese that’s worth the price.

I mentioned in my very lackluster review of Banza that I preferred Goodles over Banza’s funky, flavorless vegan mac and cheese. I also realized that I had never published my review of Goodles on the site, so before I continued my journey in vegan mac and cheese, I felt I needed to correct this oversight first (and make sure that Goodles still lived up to the hype I had in my head).

Fortunately, it does! The cashew-based white cheddar sauce and protein-packed chickpea pasta all work beautifully together. It’s savory with just the right amount of funk that’s reminiscent of traditional white cheddar. The chickpea pasta holds its shape well and won’t crumble as it cooks. It’s also a fun spiral pasta that holds the sauce perfectly.

Goodles Vegan is Believin’ Mac & Cheese Ingredients:

Goodles uses a chickpea and wheat flour pasta along with a cashew-based powdered cheese mixture for its vegan mac and cheese.

Personally, I like the look of Goodles’ nutrition compared to Banza. Goodles vegan mac and cheese is lower in fat, higher in fiber, and contains the same amount of protein. Considering I like the flavor much better, I wouldn’t be inclined to reach for Banza’s vegan mac and cheese.

How to Cook Goodles Vegan is Believin’ Mac & Cheese:

Goodles is old-school stovetop mac and cheese instead of the prepared squeeze sauce, so you’ll need plant-based milk and butter to make it taste its best. Simply boil the pasta and drain it. Then, melt vegan butter (I used Melt) and add plant-based milk (I used oat milk). Stir until combined, and then add the powdered cheese and whisk until smooth. Add the cooked pasta and toss until completely coated.

How did EV eat Goodles vegan mac and cheese?

For our taste test, we just ate a few bites fresh off the stove, but we paired it with Omni plant-based steak (I’m devastated that they appear to have gone under). Goodles is really great paired with your favorite plant-based meat and roasted veggies for a complete meal. Yum!

Where can I buy Goodles?

You can grab it on Amazon or in many local retailers. Use the Goodles store locator to find an online or brick-and-mortar store near you.
