EV’s Take: A spicy wing, but don’t call it Buffalo!
My husband’s family is from Western New York, so we have a special affinity for all things Buffalo-flavored. We always have a few bottles of Frank’s RedHot in our fridge, and I often make Buffalo tofu bites for game day.

I’ve been enjoying testing all the different plant-based Buffalo-flavored offerings, but the biggest surprise is how many brands can’t get the flavor right. Maybe I’m being too particular, but I have a very specific idea of how Buffalo sauce should taste. While technically, you can use any hot sauce to make Buffalo sauce, the original recipe for Buffalo sauce calls for Frank’s, and I feel like people should honor that a little. Maybe I’m being too hard-lined about it. And it’s surprising because so many comments say they taste like Buffalo wings, but my husband and I immediately agreed that these did NOT taste like Buffalo flavor. Maybe we got a bad batch?
All that to say, if you don’t have a particular loyalty to Frank’s, these may be perfectly fine for you. They are objectively good, spicy vegan wings, but Buffalo, they are not.
Another pro is that they’re very easy to make. These are sauceless Buffalo wings (so if you like them saucy, try Gardein instead), so no fussing with sauce packets. Just chuck them in the air fryer, wait a few minutes, and then bam. Spicy nugs await!

How to Cook Daring Buffalo Plant Chicken Wings
You can pan-fry, air fry, or bake Daring’s vegan Buffalo wings. While they recommend the pan-frying method, I used my trusty air fryer.
- Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400ºF. Spray the wings lightly with oil and arrange in an even layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping once midway through.
- Skillet: Add ¼-inch of neutral oil to a sauté pan over medium heat. Place the wings in the hot oil and cook for 4 minutes. Flip and cook for 4 minutes until browned and crispy.
- Oven: Preheat oven to 450ºF. Place wings on a lightly greased baking sheet. Transfer to the preheated oven and bake for 11 to 13 minutes, flipping once halfway through.

We cooked ours in the air fryer, and the results were crispy, spicy wings that we enjoyed (aside from the lack of Buffalo flavor). They’re so easy to make and Daring really nailed the texture of these crispy wings!
