Ready to level up your plant-based breakfast? Add Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties to your next SEC for the perfect balance of salty, spicy, and sweet flavors.

Taste

The Spicy Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties taste delicious. They have a balanced salty, sweet, spicy, and savory flavor. They make a great addition to a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese sandwich or work perfectly alongside your favorite vegan scrambled eggs.

Price

Spicy Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties retail for about $6 for 7.4 ounces. You’ll get 6 patties weighing just over an ounce each, comparable to other plant-based competitors’ breakfast sausages and meat-based counterparts.

Texture

The texture is really good. The sausage patties are juicy, and they crisp up beautifully when pan-fried. They don’t dry out when fried, and they have just the right amount of chewiness that makes them satisfying to eat. They aren’t mushy at all.

EV’s Take: A Savory, Spicy Plant-Based Sausage Patty

Beyond Breakfast Sausage Sandwich

A good SEC–sausage, egg, and cheese–sandwich is an elite breakfast. It combines all the best things about breakfast in one neat little package. Beyond Meat has developed a spicy vegan breakfast sausage patty that is the perfect addition to my morning SEC. It has just the right amount of sweet, spicy, savory flavors that work perfectly with plant-based cheese. I used Follow Your Heart’s vegan smoked Gouda, which I recently reviewed, and the combination was heavenly. The spicy sausage patty fries up beautifully, developing a deep, golden-brown crust. It has a nice fat content, akin to traditional meat-based sausage, with a pleasantly coarse texture but still juicy.

The spicy sausage patties are one of three in the breakfast sausage line-up offered by Beyond Meat. They also have Classic Patties and Sausage Links. I only reviewed the spicy breakfast sausage patties, but I’ll definitely try the classic version and the links.

Spicy Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties Ingredients:

Like Beyond Burgers, Beyond’s breakfast patties use peas as their primary protein source. However, unlike the burgers, they continue to use canola oil, whereas the burgers recently switched to avocado oil.

Because they use pea protein, those with severe peanut allergies may want to exercise caution when introducing these breakfast patties into their dietary routine, as they may develop a pea allergy.

Here’s what you get in each breakfast sausage patty

Water, Pea Protein*, Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Refined Coconut Oil, Natural Flavors, Inactivated Yeast, Rice Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract [niacin (Vitamin B3), pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), thiamin hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), riboflavin (Vitamin B2), folic acid (Vitamin B9), cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12)], Apple Extract, Salt, Spices, Pomegranate Extract, Vinegar, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Smoked Paprika, Sunflower Lecithin, Beet Juice Extract (for color), Carrot.

Truthfully, I was surprised to see no sugar in their breakfast patties! I get sweet undertones from Beyond Breakfast Sausage, but maybe that’s from the apple and pomegranate extract.

Each breakfast patty delivers about 5.5 grams of protein, a bit more than Jimmy Dean’s meat-based sausage patties. It’s a bit less than Morningstar Farm’s plant-based breakfast sausage patties, but still, I think the amount of protein is great if you’re aiming for a higher protein diet. The sodium is also totally reasonable and less than meat-based sausage patties. Compared to other plant-based competitors, like Impossible’s vegan sausage patties, Beyond’s spicy breakfast sausage patties have much less sodium, which is a big win for me.

How to cook Beyond’s vegan breakfast patties:

Beyond recommends pan-frying the patties in a skillet or griddle or baking them in a conventional oven.

How to pan-fry Beyond’s breakfast patties: Cook the patties from frozen; they do not need to be thawed first. Place a skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 2 minutes per side until caramelized. Cook them for about 4 to 5 minutes until the patties reach 165ºF. Be careful not to overcook the patties.

How to bake Beyond’s breakfast patties: Place the frozen patties on a baking sheet and transfer them to an oven preheated to 350ºF. Bake for about 8 minutes, flipping once halfway through. Remove the patties from the oven once they reach 165ºF.

And yes, you can cook Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties in an air fryer! Simply heat the air fryer to 400ºF. Add the frozen patties to a lightly greased basket and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until they reach 165ºF. I recommend flipping them once halfway through cooking.

How did EV use Beyond’s vegan breakfast patties?

vegan sausage egg and cheese sandwich

I had to make a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. I couldn’t resist! It’s one of my favorite breakfasts, and Beyond’s vegan breakfast patties performed beautifully. I paired Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties with Just Egg Folded Eggs and Follow Your Heart Smoked Gouda. I served them on a whole wheat English muffin, and it was a perfect breakfast. It was a great balance of gooey cheese, spicy sausage, and fluffy eggs.
